We’re planning a trip, and I’m trying to decide between a few different main camera options.  Here are the options on the table:

  1. Take my Sony a7iii and three zoom lenses including my large 70-200 f2.8.  I’m worried that the 70-200 is too big and heavy.
  2. Take my Sony a7iii and a couple prime lenses or maybe a standard zoom.  I’m worried that I will not get shots I want because changing lenses takes time and I’m afraid I won’t take the trouble, and also that I would miss the shot due to not having the right focal length.
  3. Take a Sony a7iii with one or two primes, and a compact zoom camera for carrying during the day. Mostly, I wonder if this combination will be a bad compromise between convenience and quality.
  4. Take a Sony a7iii with the 24-240 (still to be purchased) and maybe a prime or two.  I do not have any real world experience with this lense, and hope that the compromises don’t cancel out to an equivalent of just taking a superzoom compact.

The good news is that I have a few months yet before the trip.  Who knows what might change before then.  I think I’m leaning toward the 24-240 option.  I’ve had super-zoom lenses in the past and appreciate the size and convenience value they offer.
