My name is Peter Roise, and I'm a father of five beautiful children. I'm the husband of my best-friend and biggest fan. And I'm a commercial, editorial, and portrait photographer. The road to photography hasn't been straight for me (it included a liberal arts degree, theological and ministerial studies, and ten years of part-time teaching), but I am happily getting to work setting up a studio and establishing a clientèle in the beautiful Palouse Region around my home in Moscow, Idaho.
Being a dad, I like to travel light, be creative, and find out how to get everyone happy. The best pictures happen when you're in the right place at the right time, and everyone is happy. So I can shoot on location or in the studio, but my main goal is to get to the right place, at the right time, and get the shot.
I like to make photos with a story, or that show energy or motion. The camera is essentially an abstracting tool. It takes a moment in time and allows us to gaze upon it, contemplate it, and see in still form what is really only a fraction of a second in our everyday experience. The camera is a tool that gives us a perspective, and that perspective tells a story, shows a point of view. I love this, and I study how to make use of this capability.
But as good as I may be at getting the shot, I think my favorite shots most often happen when someone says, "Hey, you should get this." So, if someone likes what they see, I listen and get the shot. And I like to work with people, listen to them, and get their story in images, audio--and with video, these days, as well.
So, if you need some photos, or even if you don't give me a call or stop by. I'd love to hear your story.
